Sharing Art, Building Community.
Thanks to the support from the James Augustus Smith Charitable Performing Arts Trust, Experience Chehalis, and downtown Chehalis Businesses we were able to develop the Youth Art Walk program for High School students in Lewis County. After forty submissions, twenty artists were chosen to represent this inaugural program, with the help of our jurors, David Hart (Book n’ Brush), Sara Askins (Minty City Coffeehouse), Jan Nontell (Rectangle Gallery), Liza Brenner (SPS College Art Professor), and Annalee Tobey (Experience Chehalis).
The twenty artist had the opportunity to display their artwork downtown Chehalis at our participating businesses for one week in March starting with an artist reception at Mint City Coffeehouse. During this reception, artists were acknowledged as well as the 1st through 5th place winners announced. Artists who placed received cash prizes from the James Augustus Smith Charitable Performing Arts Trust. During the week of Youth Artwalk community members had the opportunity to vote on their favorites with ballot boxes at participating locations. The artist with the most votes at the end of the week received a $100 prize from Experience Chehalis, a $25 gift certificate and special book from Book n’ Brush and a swag bag from Big Foot Treasure!
Pictured right are the twenty pieces of artwork that were on display at participating businesses in downtown Chehalis.
